An hourly rate is only part of the picture
Drawing, measuring, preparing material, assembling, transport and finishing also take work. Preparation can represent a large share of a small job. Existing components may require investigation or exposure before the full scope is known.
Request comparable quotations
Send each supplier the same drawings, photographs, quantities, purpose and finish requirements. Ask for VAT, exclusions and provisional sums to be identified. Discuss changes before extra work starts. A lower price should not depend on unreviewed modifications to a load-bearing connection.
