More than a beam size
Existing floors and walls, connections, bearings and the structure below can be decisive. Ask which components and assumptions the engineer’s scope includes. Missing information may require a site visit or further investigation. A preliminary calculation with assumptions is not automatically ready for construction.
Read the scope and revisions
Check the address, project description, drawing references and revision date. Ask who investigates missing information and details temporary support. A wider opening or moved column must be assessed before ordering materials. An example report explains the format, but its beam sizes are not transferable to your house.
