Chimney breast removal

Removing a chimney breast can free up living space. First establish how it relates to the flue and any structure above.

From preparation to completion

A fireplace surround, chimney breast and flue are different components. Removing the visible part must not leave higher sections unsupported. Check whether an appliance or another property still uses the flue. Older materials may require further investigation before demolition. Include support, service alterations and repairs to floors, walls and ceilings in the agreed scope.

What we coordinate with you

  • Identify the breast, flue and current use
  • Assess support for remaining sections
  • Check services and suspect materials
  • Agree on floor, wall and ceiling repairs

What affects the price?

Loads, span, support, access and finishes determine the work. A price for steel alone is not a price for the complete opening. Share your drawings and desired result so the quotation can identify included work, provisional items and exclusions.

Questions about this service

Can the chimney above remain?

Sometimes, with an appropriate structural solution and assessment of the flue. This cannot be assumed from the visible chimney breast alone.
